Agents of the Future: How AI and the Cloud Are Empowering Nepal’s SMEs

As digital transformation accelerates, intelligent agents are becoming powerful tools for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to streamline workflows and enhance decision-making. To explore this emerging potential, the NIIC 2 Fund recently hosted an expert session titled “Agents of the Future: Leveraging the Cloud to Build Intelligent Agent Systems.”

Organized in collaboration with Adex International , the session brought together 60+ tech and tech-enabled business owners to explore how AI agents and cloud platforms can drive smarter operations.

Demystifying AI Agents and the Cloud

AI agents—digital systems that can learn, act, and respond autonomously—are transforming business functions from customer service to internal project management. However, to truly unlock their power, cloud infrastructure is essential.

The session introduced participants to how cloud technologies enable scalable, secure, and real-time AI deployments, offering SMEs cost-effective access to advanced tools once limited to large enterprises.

What the Session Covered

The session focused on practical, business-relevant insights:

  • What AI agents do
How they automate repetitive tasks, support smarter decision-making, and integrate into everyday operations.
  • Why cloud matters
Demonstrating how cloud platforms support the speed, storage, and flexibility needed to make intelligent systems viable for growing businesses.
  • Real-world demonstrations
Participants witnessed AI agents in action—automated support bots, workflow tools, and predictive systems—alongside case studies of SMEs already leveraging these technologies.

Catalyzing Smart Growth for SMEs

For many participants, this expert session marked a first step into the world of AI-powered operations. It highlighted not just the what and how, but the why—helping SMEs see AI not as a distant future, but a present-day tool for efficiency, scale, and competitive advantage.

This session was part of NIIC 2 Fund’s broader mission to strengthen Nepal’s SME ecosystem. The fund is supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by One to Watch.
