Climate change is no longer solely an environmental issue. It is a reality businesses can no longer ignore. From rising operational costs and supply chain disruptions to changing regulations and emerging green markets, businesses are increasingly being asked to adapt.

Against this backdrop, NIIC 2 brought together founders, entrepreneurs, and business leaders for a masterclass on "Climate Change and Your Business: What Every Tech and Tech-Enabled SME Owner Should Know."

The session delivered by Abiral Khatri, Climate Investment Specialist, centered around one simple reality: climate change is no longer a distant concern. It is already shaping the way businesses operate.

The afternoon unfolded through discussion of global climate goals, Nepal’s environmental landscape, carbon regulations, carbon credits and climate finance. It also offered a closer look at data centers, their environmental footprint and their measures for sustainable business practices.

Focus shifted towards how tech can support climate transition via the example of Nepal’s NDC 3.0 commitments to smart grids, IoT solutions, EV infrastructure, digital MRV systems for forests, and climate fintech, and the session explored how innovation is creating new opportunities for green growth in hydropower, solar energy, and clean cooking.

The final part of the masterclass looked beyond technology, exploring Nepal's climate landscape within the Hindu Kush region and the growing role of green finance. Through case studies and discussion, participants reflected on the climate risks facing their own businesses and the practical ways businesses can respond to climate risks.
