Tankelectrik 2: Dutch Clean Energy Enthusiasts' Cycle Expedition to Mustang

A group of 19 Dutch clean energy enthusiasts have just completed the second expedition of Tankelectrik. Tankelectrik is an impact cycling expedition founded by Bram Tankink, a.k.a The Tank, an extraordinary Dutch professional cyclist with strong commitment to renewable energy investing, and Willem Grimminck, and investment specialist in Nepal. The first expedition was held in 2017  when the duo led 18  potential investors over the Annapurna conservation area passing through the highest Himalayan pass Thorong La. The journey offered a unique adventure and showcased the clean energy investment case and led to inception of Off-Grid Renewable Energy Fund (ORE) – a dedicated solar and green energy fund.

With the same spirit and enthusiasm, Bram and Willem organized Tankelectrik 2. This time, the journey went through desert highland of Mustang talking the participants through High altitude and deep gorges, ancient settlements and Buddhist monasteries, hot springs and sacred relics, steep climbs and brutal descents, desolate gravel and panoramic views on the top of the world. While experiencing all of this, the participants also explored the meaning of solar energy in Nepal and the role electricity plays in realizing the true potential of the country. Tankelectrik was driven by the mission to protect the Himalayas against climate change while promoting entrepreneurial endeavors and job creation.

One to Watch, with its experience in Nepal, has played an instrumental role in setting up the Off-Grid Renewable Energy Fund (ORE) and realizing the dream project of the first Tankelectrik expedition. Since its inception, ORE has invested in Gham Power, a solar developer in Nepal, and Gham Urja Sewa, a subsidiary of Gham Power set up with the mission of rapidly scaling up installation of roof top solar for Commercial and Industrial clients. With the additional support that ORE has garnered from the Tankelectric 2, we aim to expand the outreach and impact of ORE, building on the foundation we have build over the last five years.
